San Francisco, Seattle, Canada: all have banned the use of plastic shopping bags. Predictable places, perhaps. But now China has followed suit with a ban that takes effect June 1. The world’s most populous country uses about 37 million barrels of crude oil each year to manufacture plastic packaging materials.
