Summer 2009: Green Jobs, Chef's Delight

Green Jobs

Brandon Ingram, an aspiring musician and college dropout, worked odd jobs until realizing that his career path wasn't taking him far. Then he found a green-job training program in New York City, reports Liz Galst in this issue ("Hard Hats Warm to Smart Energy"). Ingram is inspired by the green-jobs movement, writes Galst, for good reason: some programs boast a 100 percent placement rate, and the American Solar Energy Society estimates that the United States will have 37 million "green-collar" energy jobs by 2030. NRDC experts aren't surprised by this success—in fact, they predicted it. A 2008 report released by the organization found that a $100 billion investment over two years would create two million green-collar jobs. Go online to find more about NRDC's green-job campaign, including real-life success stories.

Chef's Delight
