Alwyn L'hoir: Citizen Reporter

I'm a mom, a wife, a gardener, herbalist, artist and an activist, probably in that order. I am passionately commited to finding ways to live a peaceful, low impact lifestyle, and my writing tends to reflect this. I feel that only in this way can we acheive world peace. We can all live together on this very small planet]. I beleive in power for, by, and of the people. Let's hear it for Love's revolution.

Experience

I live on a small organic farm, where we have been solar powered and 'off the grid' since 1990. I grow, in addition to the usual fruits and vegetables, about 30 different medicinal herbs. I also wildcraft herbs and create healing salves and tinctures, and am learning to distill herbs for hydrosols and oils. I create essential oil perfumes for http://www.bluemoonperfume.com . We are currently engaging in creating permaculture gardens, to sustainlably live on the planet. We participate in a hundred mile radius club, where we aim to purchase, grow, or otherwise create foods and products within our local ecosystems. We are signatories to one of the only anti-GMO ordinances in the country.

I have worked as a professional psychic at the original Renaissance Pleasure Faires in California, where I also work as a professional artist and sign painter. In addition, I am a professional photographer, mainly shooting period portraits at the Dickens Fair in San Francisco, CA.

I love music, and play drums for a middle eastern music ensemble. I have been prompted by current events to write and sing folk songs, in the tradition of Guthrie. Unfortunately, our current political climate is all too rich in material for this pursuit.

I love the soporific sounds of their humming, and love to see them buried in the flowers, or packing fat pollen sacks around. I know the garden is being well served then.

There has been much info in the news lately about sudden colony death, and much speculation (and few facts) as to the cause and treatment. One thing we know for sure is that without the bees to pollinate the food, we will all be much hungrier. There have been few (if any) reports of colony collapse in Mendocino. It may be because we have no GMO food here, and ...read full post
