Sigourney Weaver
Academy Award-nominated actress Sigourney Weaver has created a host of memorable characters in films ranging from Aliens to Avatar to Gorillas in the Mist. Born and educated in New York City, Weaver graduated from Stanford University and went on to receive a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama (while at Yale, she roomed with NRDC President Frances Beinecke, whom she has credited as an inspiration for the character of Ripley in Aliens). Weaver is also an advocate for the earth's oceans, narrating the NRDC-produced documentary Acid Test and testifying before Congress on the threat of ocean acidification.
