Reporting and commentary from OnEarth editors and correspondents
Delaying tactics, like legal blocking maneuvers, are obviously failing to stop the ecocidal expansion of industrial exploitation of resources, for one basic reason: the continuing growth of the human population, now 7 billion and counting. Thus, the super corporations have all the excuse they need to keep on growing their industries, regardless of consequences, because the ever-growing demand for more and more energy is always there. Therefore, environmental advocates should face this reality and shift their emphasese to: 1. Peacefully reduce the human population with family planning education and legislation that gives each woman the right to decide if and when to birth her children. very few women want 5, 6, 7, 8 children. More want none at all. But the vast majority want only 1, 2 or 3, because that's as much as they can effectively handle for the best support of the children. 2. Safely recycle 100% of all toxic waste, garbage, sludge and junk. Failing to do this, the human race faces an immanent collapse of our life-supporting biosphere, demonstrated by the worsening rainstorms and floods, tornados, droughts and wildfires as the planet tries to heal itself like any living organism does when afflicted with toxins or germs. The people need to know this and act very soon to survive. JTR
