He is co-founder and program coordinator of the Atlanta Asylum Network which provides physical and psychological assessments of asylum seekers in the Atlanta area. Dr. Hess’s current research is focused on evaluating acute morbidity and mortality associated with weather and climate; global health adaptation to climate change, particularly in relation to disasters; and fossil fuel dependence in health systems and the health impacts of transitioning to novel energy sources. He also works on sustainability in Emergency Medical Services and other health care systems.
